Citizens of the world stood for 14 year old Ahmed Mohamed when his science teacher and school considered him a threat after he presented a clock he had invented to impress his teacher. Instead of cheering and encouraging the boy, they got him arrested.
While the 9th grader (equivalent of a JSS 3 student in Nigeria) of MacArthur High School was caught up in the ‘clock-bomb’ drama, social media users began protesting with #IStandWithAhmed.
Citizens from about 35 countries across the world continuously protested against Ahmed’s arrest. According to Keyhole, Nigeria’s voice is considered the 3rd strongest as regards conversations and protest on Twitter and Instagram.
Thankfully, Ahmed Mohamed has been released. He will be changing schools and visiting the White House in acceptance of Barack Obama’s invitation. He will also love to attend MIT. He thanks you all for standing up for him and he’s grateful to Allah for the doors the situation opened for him.
